This presentation will attempt to answer the questions most frequently asked. Why quality management is important in clinical laboratories; what role standards play in implementing quality management systems; who develops standards; the ISO process and how standards are used by accreditation bodies to measure compliance. The most important standard for clinical laboratories is ISO15189:2012, developed by ISO/TC212 WG1, it is a management system standard, based on ISO9000 and ISO17025 and widely used for accreditation of laboratories in many countries.
